Athena Theatre has three main programs:
Athena Reads, our monthly play reading series.
Submissions are accepted from all over the world based on our new play submission guidelines. These are private table readings sans rehearsal or audience for the purpose of new play development and for full production consideration.
Athena Writes, our resident playwright group.
Each year 8-10 playwrights are accepted to be in residence for the year, developing a ten-minute play as well as a full-length play inspired by the year’s theme.
-Each Spring our playwrights have an evening on ten-minute plays at Symphony Space, workshop style: off-book with suggestive design elements.
-Each Winter our playwrights have a 29 hour Staged Reading of ten-minute excerpts from their full-length plays.
Full productions (1-3 per year)
Our World Premiere/NY Premiere productions are discovered through our Reads and Writes series.
We have produced productions at 59E59 Theaters, Theatre Row, A.R.T./New York Theatres and IRT.
